This is where I believe the NCAA goes wrong. Payments from boosters...sure. Agents lingering and influencing before legal...all right. Money from the institution to try to sway a recruit to attend their school...I can handle that. But here I believe we have gone too far.

I recall a conversation a while back where you tossed around the idea that college athletes should be paid. I am torn on the issue. What are your thoughts currently?

Tough call, I would be one to say we should get rid of all college athletics that don't fund themselves (stolen from our great and wise friend Reid Ribble), so I would say that some athletes should be paid a stipend, but not all. Where you draw that line is tough, but could be made.

Let's call it what it is and consider major college athletics a minor league for the NFL and NBA. They get their education, but let's give them a little more. We praised Matt Leinart for coming back to school last year, now we see it cost him at least $20 million. How bout them apples!

I don't know if you looked at the link, but what a farce. So Leinart's dad can pay the extra two grand and Jarrett's can't, so he gets in trouble. Let one man take care of another! A few years ago Richard Jefferson went home with Luke Walton for the holidays and got suspended I think because Bill paid for the plane fare. If I had Bill Walton's bank account and Maiya wanted to bring a friend home for the holiday's who may not be able to afford it, I'd be paying the way. Where is the common sense!

Another thing that bites my ass is how these colleges use the athletes to make a buck. For instance, I own a Michigan FB jersey with #37 on it. I bought it because I was a huge Jarrod (sp?)Irons fan back in the day. Had there been number 36 on it, I would not have bought it. Walk into any UW-Madison store on or around campus and you'll find a host of FB and BB jerseys without the name but with the number of current athletes. Do the athletes get a cut of that? No! And don't give me this "they're getting a free education out of it," so are the few physics and chemistry and art students, and they can sell their work. Let's take all of the art created by the students and put it in a campus art gallery, taking top dollar if offered, with nothing going to the student. "But they are getting their education paid for." Who cares!

So should they get paid, some, the top few percent should get a cut of the TV stations and universities using them to make money. When JJ Redick and Duke go to UNC to play, you know ESPN is charging top dollar for advertising, those top players should get a cut.

Enough, what did I just say?
